Neighborhood Business Development Program (NBDC)

Neighborhood Business Development Centers (NBDC) provide hyper-local support to business owners and start-up entrepreneurs through a network of nearly 70 grantees that are Chicago-based nonprofit business service organizations providing FREE business development assistance and located throughout the City. NBDCs work in partnership with the City to improve the small business ecosystem in Chicago by providing entrepreneurs and business owners with expert training and resources to help address common challenges and support key City priorities.

As an NBDC, Northalsted Business Alliance can deliver specialized business programs that aim to help entrepreneurs start, sustain, and grow their businesses, such as the following:

  • Researching information about a particular neighborhood
  • Getting a new small business started Troubleshooting City-related issues for small businesses
  • Connecting businesses to financial resources
  • Providing networking opportunities
  • Assisting with employment and workforce development
  • Identifying consumer marketing opportunities
  • Connecting your business to the local community

BACP Resources

The Department of Business Affairs and Consumer Protection (BACP) licenses, educates, regulates and empowers Chicago businesses to grow and succeed as well as, receives and processes consumer complaints.  BACP provides bi-weekly and monthly informative sessions to help businesses act responsibly and create economic vitality and vibrant communities for the people in Chicago.  BACP educates small business and consumers to ensure the public is protected against fraudulent practices.  BACP investigates for business compliance in areas such as: sales practices, fuel, natural gas, electricity, durable and non durable merchandise and services.  The Department also enforces rules and regulations relating to liquor establishments, measures and weighs, public chauffeurs, public passenger vehicles, ambulances, and transportation network providers.

The Small Business Center (SBC) is the business licensing division of the City of Chicago’s Department of Business Affairs and Consumer Protection (BACP) and the City’s one-stop-shop for business licensing, public way use permitting, and connecting entrepreneurs to business resources.
