News about COVID-19 is changing hourly, so the Northalsted Business Alliance (NBA) is working to provide resources for members of the Northalsted community. This webpage contains information about the available local, state, and federal resources for employees affected by COVID-19. For the most current information, NBA recommends monitoring updates from the US Center for Disease Control (CDC), the Chicago Department of Public Health (CDPH), and the World Health Organization (WHO).

Unemployment benefits may be available to some individuals whose unemployment is attributable to COVID-19. IDES recently adopted emergency rules to try to make the unemployment insurance system as responsive to the current situation as possible. Check the IDES webpage to see if you qualify for unemployment insurance.

5/6/20 – The Illinois Department of Employment Security (IDES) today released new instructions for 1099 workers who have lost work due to COVID-19. Workers who believe they may be eligible for new federal benefits under the Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA) program, must first apply for regular unemployment insurance before applying for benefits under PUA when a new application portal opens on May 11, 2020 via the IDES website.
The United States Bartenders Guild (USBG) is offering grants through their Emergency Assistance Program for Bartenders and their families. You do not have to be a USGBC member to apply for one of these grants. Be aware that delays persist in submitting applications due to high demands.

The U.S. Department of Labor oversees the DUA program and coordinates with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), to provide the funds to the state UI agencies for payment of DUA benefits and payment of state administration costs under agreements with the Secretary of Labor. Applicants must file under their state unemployment insurance agency.

The Restaurant Employee Relief Fund (“Fund”) was created to help restaurant industry employees experiencing extraordinary hardship in the wake of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) outbreak. Through this Fund, grants will be made to restaurant industry employees who have been impacted by COVID-19, including a decrease in wages or loss of employment.
Grants will be awarded as soon as possible to those individuals who meet the prescribed eligibility criteria, as reviewed and verified by the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation (NRAEF).
