Big Gay Sal's Pizza Now Open
March 8 | New LGBTQ+ Late Night Pizza, Wings & Margarita Bar in Northalsted
Big Gay Sal’s Pizza (3445. N. Halsted St.) has just opened in the heart of Northalsted (between The Villa Toscana & Lark), on March 8, 2024.
The new LGBTQ+ owned restaurant is looking to bring more late-night food to Northalsted with New York style pizza by the slice (’til 5am Fri & Sat), plus a full bar and charming patio (coming soon).
Besides a selection of thin crust pizza, menu highlights include Spicy Honey or Garlic Parmesan Wings, Fried Brussels Appetizer, Grilled Chicken Sandwich, Dulce de Leche Sprinkle Cake and Margaritas.
The restaurant’s name is a loving reference to the chef behind the pizza, Sal Mora. Business partner Mike Miller says, “It has to do with his heart and his smile. Anytime that guy walks into the room, he’s always the happiest and kindest person there.”
Sal and Mike partnered on the restaurant based on Sal’s history and expertise. “I started work right out of high school in a pizza place on the South Side, learning as much as I could about the business over the past 18 years. For Big Gay Sal’s, we were determined to be right here on the strip and have been welcomed with open arms. We’re looking forward to supporting the queer community through partnerships, promotions, special events, and job opportunities.”
As an LGBTQ+-owned business in a historically LGBTQ+ neighborhood, Big Gay Sal’s Pizza slogan is, “Serving the community one slice at a time.” For every slice of pizza sold, Big Gay Sal’s will donate to LGBTQ+ organizations and causes.
Miller, who owns a marketing agency, also has experience working in restaurants/bars, as well as philanthropy. Miller most recently was a chair for the Santa Speedo Run at Sidetrack, a fundraiser for the Center on Halsted, which raised more than $152,000!
