Pop star, TV personality and singer/dancer JoJo Siwa created a sensation on Saturday, with record breaking attendance.
She performed her latest hit “Karma” to a very enthusiastic audience, showing off her signature dance moves and sassy personality.
Her Chicago Pride Fest performance was also a viral sensation online. JoJo’s Pride Fest posts topped 14+ million views on her Instagram and news of the attendance made People, the Sun Times, ABC7 and other feeds.

Australian Alex Lahey rounded out the stage with an indie, pop-punk sound.
Sixteen Candles and Too Much Molly Band knocked our socks off at the South Stage Saturday. While Empress Of and Aya Ito brought the beats on Sunday, topping Peach Presents lineup of BIPOC artists.

As June comes to a close, so does the vibrant celebration of Pride Month. In the heart of Chicago’s Northalsted neighborhood, the Rainbow Tour Pride Bar Crawl was a standout event that encapsulated everything joyful and inclusive about Pride. We had the pleasure of attending this colorful extravaganza and it was an unforgettable experience!
RainbowCrawl6 1
One of the highlights of the Rainbow Tour Bar Crawl was undoubtedly the swag. Participants were decked out in an array of rainbow-colored accessories—from hats and sunglasses to beads and flags. Each venue along the crawl offered something special, whether it was a complimentary visor, t-shirt, or a fun sticker to add to your collection. It was a fantastic way to show off your pride and take a piece of the celebration home with you.
Of course, what’s a bar crawl without some delicious drinks? With 10 participating locations, attendees were guaranteed a GOOD time. The participating bars and restaurants pulled out all the stops with their Pride-themed cocktails and specials. Starting off strong at Sidetrack, all participants were able to sample free Tito’s Vodka to kick off the crawl. From the North End, Replay, Progress Bar, to Lark, each drink we had was amazing.
Once our group acquired stamps from all locations, we returned to Sidetrack for one final drink and more prizes. Attendees also had the opportunity to enter a raffle by participating in a scavenger hunt centered around the historical Northalsted Pylons. Participants were encouraged to read a bit about the history of the LGBTQ+ community along the crawl and answer questions to win even more swag.
Cheers to love, cheers to diversity, and cheers to a future where every month feels like Pride Month. Be sure to keep an eye out for more fun crawls and events throughout the year.
Special thanks to all our participating venues and sponsors.

The recent passing of Jose Guzman (above right), co-founder of Northalsted Chicago’s Las Mananitas restaurant on April 23, 2024, is a significant loss to the community. Together with his life partner, Elio Solis (above left), they established Las Mananitas in 1984, which has been a beloved fixture in Northalsted for 40 years.
Mass will be celebrated Monday, May 13, at 3pm at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church located at 1351 W Evergreen Ave, Chicago, IL, 60642. After mass, a mariachi band will offer musical tribute to Jose’s life and those who cherish his memory.
To send flowers to the family in memory of Jose Guzman, please visit his MEMORIAL PAGE or click HERE.
Jose Guzman (left) – Las Mananitas Restaurant Chicago
Jose was one of eleven children born in Cuernavaca, Mexico, to Lorenzo Guzman and Willibalda Altamirano.
As a young man, Jose attended seminary in Spain. Though his life would take a different path, his education and experience would stay with him as he grew into a worldly man with a love of travel. His venturesome spirit led him to many firsts when he eventually settled into Chicago, which would become his lifelong home.
An actor and model, Jose helped to break down barriers in the industry and define the city’s diverse identity by performing the first Spanish-language municipal advertisements.
Jose Guzman
In addition to his stagecraft, Jose was a gifted writer and poet, and his love of the written word pervaded many of his endeavours. Of these, his greatest success was his pride and joy: Las Mananitas, the restaurant he operated with partner Elio Solis for more than forty years.
las mananitas northalsted chicago
There, his creativity reached into the marketing, the kitchen, and even into the way the restaurant ran. As beloved by its team and alumni as by its surrounding neighborhood, Las Mananitas created a tightly-knit, vibrant community around itself. From this home base, Jose was able to thrive as the kind, generous, funny man he is remembered and missed as.
Jose Guzman
In addition to his parents, Jose joins his siblings Aurelia, Rodolfo, and Antonio Guzman at rest. He is survived and remembered by siblings Lorenzo, Raquel, Javier, Aurelia, Jesus, Evaristo, and Willibalda Guzman; generations of loving nieces and nephews; and his indispensible partner Elio.

A mile-long stretch in Northalsted started getting colorful, rainbow crosswalks on Tuesday. All 14 crosswalks will be painted by mid-June and run parallel to Halsted Street.
The Chicago Rainbow Pride Crosswalks project will link up the gold and rainbow ring pylons in Northalsted between Melrose Street and Bradley Place. The pylons are more than just a neighborhood signifier. The structures include The Legacy Walk which features bronze plaques of important LGBTQ people. The corridor and pylons will soon become a city landmark.
The 14th crosswalk will be dedicated to the transgender community, and instead of rainbow stripes, it will have blue, pink and white stripes found on the transgender flag. That crosswalk will be at Melrose Street, south of Howard Brown Health Center.
Also, the clinic, which focuses on LGBTQ health, just installed a mural that honors the queer and non-binary community. It features a portrait of Chicago-based Kiam Marcelo Junio, a holistic healer and interdisciplinary artist. The piece is by artists Sandra Antongiorgi, Andy Bellomo, and Sam Kirk—and the first in a series of LGBTQ tribute murals.
The rainbow crosswalks project was funded through donations collected at Chicago Pride Fest and Northalsted Market Days.
The neighborhood will celebrate the new crosswalk and landmark status to come with a dedication ceremony and Pride month kick-off at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 30.
Join us for the dedication ceremony of the Chicago Rainbow Pride Crosswalks, Thurs 5/30, 10am at Halsted & Roscoe.
Hosted by Northalsted Business Alliance with 44th Ward Alderman Tom Tunney, 46th Ward Alderman James Cappleman, the Chicago Department of Transportation, the Chicago Landmarks Commission and The Legacy Project as we kick-off, LGBTQ+ Pride Month and also celebrate Northalsted’s Rainbow Pylons Chicago Landmark Designation.
Reception to follow outside of Roscoe’s Tavern at 3356 N. Halsted Street.
This project was funded by generous public donations collected at Chicago Pride Fest and Northalsted Market Days.
Chicago, IL – More than 100 North American cities have implemented rainbow crosswalks to commemorate their local LGBTQ communities and soon Chicago will be one of them.
The Northalsted Business Alliance is preparing to install 14 Pride-themed rainbow crosswalks on the one-mile stretch of North Halsted from Melrose north to Bradley, excluding Addison.
“As an internationally recognized and historic landmark neighborhood, Northalsted has been a place of acceptance and diversity for decades. These crosswalks show our commitment to maintaining a thriving LGBTQ community,” said Northalsted President Ramesh Ariyanayakam.
Thirteen of the crosswalks will feature the rainbow design that represents diversity and has become an inclusive symbol of the worldwide LGBTQ pride movement since the 1970’s. The 14th crosswalk at Melrose will be dedicated to the transgender community with the inclusion of the blue, pink and white stripes found on the transgender flag. This crosswalk is south of the Howard Brown Health Center which features a wall mural that honors the queer and non-binary community.
