Northalsted Pride Prom: A Chance to Rewrite History
May 21, 2016 – In collaboration with The Legacy Project, Northalsted invited the community to enjoy an unforgettable evening of entertainment and celebration. The elaborate set-up included an expansive outdoor tent on Waveland, between Halsted and Broadway. Guests savored light fare by featured neighborhood restaurants, beverages and dancing.
Christopher Barrett Politan, Executive Director of the Northalsted Business Alliance (NBA), described what the night meant for the neighborhood:
“For many in the LGBTQ community prom was a less than welcoming environment to express gender identity or sexual orientation. Our Pride Prom gives everyone the chance to rewrite their prom experience. Furthermore, we are thrilled that Alderman Cappleman and his husband Richard Thale will serve as Honorary Co-Chairs of the evening.”
The event marked the first joint initiative for the NBA and The Legacy Project. Victor Salvo, the Founder and Executive of The Legacy Project, expressed his enthusiasm for Pride Prom:
“I cannot think of a better event to kick-off our collaboration with NBA. As we look back at our history, while also embracing our future, Prom is a penultimate event and one we look forward to celebrating across generations.”
The event was co-sponsored by: MB Financial, Miller/Coors Brewing, Howard Brown Health & The Chicago Cubs.
