Inaya Day

Inaya Day

bio from swishcraftmusic.com

Whether it’s Hip Hop, R&B, Funk, or House music, she’s in there. You’ve heard her voice on Mousse T’s “HORNY”, on “NASTY GIRL”, and “KEEP PUSHIN”, but we must go on to mention a few others like, “I AM THA 1”, “STAND BY ME”, “GLAMOROUS LIFE”, “SHOUT IT OUT”, “MOVIN UP”, “BREAKAWAY”, & “NATURAL HIGH”. She’s had numerous UK, Aria, and Billboard top tens, (including 6 Billboard #1 dance-charters), and is still going strong!

Who is she? She’s Inaya Day!

Besides writing for herself, Inaya has written for Bootsie Collins, Randy Crawford, and Missy Elliot, to name just a few. In addition to house music, Inaya writes, records and performs gospel, musical theater, jazz, hip-hop (Queen Latifa, MC Lyte, Missy Elliott, Sean Puffy Combs, Big Daddy Cane, etc), and R&B. Seeking to gain more control over the fate of her music, Inaya started her own record label, Ny-O-Dae Music, from which she’s released the titles, “HIGHER PLACE”, “CHASE ME”, “THAT NIGHT”, “ONE WAY” (which graced the ARIA chart in 2011 and 2012), the reggae-flavored, “JUMP UP & DOWN”, and “LOOKING FORWARD”.

Inaya also had a moment in film when she acted and sang as “Jiffy” in “WHO SHOT PAT?” with Sandra Bullock in 1989.

It’s no wonder that this card-carrying member of the Actor’s Equity Association, groomed in church and musical theater (THE WIZ, LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS, etc), would become one of the most prolific writers and frequently heard voices on the Universe’s dance floors.

Listen out for Inaya’s music, including her collaboration with Crystal Waters & Stonebridge, “LONG DAY”, her collaboration with Marc JB of Bimbo Jones, “EVERY BREATH” (w/mixes by Bimbo Jones, Frankie Knuckles, Tony Moran, GoldLock & Octagon) Billboard #6 “STRANDED” with Dirty Disco, and her 2016 Swishcraft Music release “DO WHAT WE DO” with Bit Error & Country Club Martini Crew, on a dance floor near you.

Icona Pop

IconaPop

When Caroline and Aino first met at a party in 2009, it was ‘love at first sight’. Determined to create “the best band ever”, their musical collaboration started on the very next day, and they had their first gig three weeks later. They quickly released their first single ‘Manners’ and the future wonder of Icona Pop was officially formed.

The duo’s big breakthrough can be described with one phrase: ‘I Love It’. The 2012 monster hit (which dominated many top lists in the Western World, and appeared on several TV- and talk shows), became a milestone for Swedish pop music. The song had big success worldwide, especially in the US, where the single sold over 2 million copies and reached US Platinum sales.

Other great hits by Icona Pop are ‘All night’, ‘We Got the World’, ‘Girlfriend’ and ‘Let’s Go’ ft. Tiesto. Icona Pop is greatly awarded for their musical brilliance. For instance, they’ve received prizes and titles like “Swedish Breakthrough of the Year”, “Group of the Year” and “Song of the Year” (‘I Love It’). On 26 May 2015, the duo released the single ‘Emergency’. The song peaked a few weeks later on the Billboard Dance Chart, making their second single to top that chart after ‘All Night’. The song was also featured in the video game FIFA 16. In July, the EP Emergency was released. It includes the critically acclaimed “First Time” and the smash-hit ‘Clap Snap’.

The girls have toured with mega stars Miley Cyrus, Katy Perry and One Direction. On February 23rd, 2016, Icona Pop performed their single, ‘Someone Who Can Dance‘ at the Grammys in Stockholm. Caroline and Aino are though not only known as cool icons and great singers, they are also known for being talented songwriters that write the majority of their own songs.

Summer saw the act drop long anticipated single ‘Girls Girls.’ Among the huge tastemaker support, Entertainment Weekly commented: “This buoyant, rosé-soaked tribute to throwing down with your gal pals will have you saying “I love it!” all over again.” 7m streams later and setting the duo up for a marker appearance on Swedish TV show “Så Mycket Bättre” (So Much Better), Sweden’s leading female pop provocateurs have never looked stronger.

After touring the world during the summer of 2018 – now, Icona Pop has released a collection together with Swedish clothing brand Gina Tricot along with new pop-dance single – Rhythm In My Blood. A party anthem which will leave no one standing still. The entire collection has a vibrant party pulse, which is exactly what you need to boost energy on dark fall days, according to Icona themselves. Disco, glitter, pop, power and rock’n’roll – inspiration for the collection comes directly from Icona Pop’s sizzling music career, where the stage is their own catwalk. Now the girls are focusing on writing new music – planning on coming back with full-fledged power during 2019.

Hank & Cupcakes

HankandCupcakes

Cheap Thrill brings the raw energy of Hank & Cupcakes’ live shows off the stage and onto your home stereo, with a grungier edgier record than ever before while holding onto their fierce signature off-the-walls infectious sound.

Seeing Hank & Cupcakes live, and hearing their latest album, Cheap Thrill, is like watching two of your best friends fall in love. The record truly captures the band’s sound: sensual, powerful, and highly energetic. There’s no careful choreography here, no proliferation of autotune to mold the songs into something palatable to the sterile chewed up standards of today’s Top 40 culture. The raw, unfiltered, uncensored reality of Hank & Cupcakes is what Cheap Thrill is built on. It’s a sonic revolution and it’s calling you to join in and rock out.

Hank & Cupcakes are Aliens of Extraordinary Ability… At least according to the US immigration services. Hailing from Tel Aviv to New York City in late 08’, the duo, consisting of powerhouse vocalist/drummer Cupcakes and bassist extraordinaire Hank were quickly dubbed a “must see” live act on the local scene. Attracting praise from MTV and New York Post, the buzzworthy band were signed to BMG with whom they released their 2012 ‘Aint No Love’ EP. When faced with the choice of creative compromise vs. artistic freedom, Hank & Cupcakes chose the latter, walking away from the deal to self release their debut LP ‘Naked’ in 2013, followed by ‘Cash 4 Gold’ in 2014. The two are known for their explosive live performance which has finally met it’s match in the form of the band’s forthcoming record, Cheap Thrill.

The album was recorded in a custom setup in the duo’s new Atlanta home where Brooklyn producer Van Goose, who spent a week down south, joined them, immersed in the project. Microphones were set up in & out of the house infrastructure including heating shafts, closets and different rooms all intended to create an array of sonic chambers & an ambient live record.

The striking cover art for Cheap Thrill is the fruit of a collaboration with internationally acclaimed Mexican artist Claudio Limon. Like their music, Hank & Cupcakes’ cover image comes across at first as pure energetic art but Shir explains that there’s more to it than meets the eye: “The on the album cover is deliberately gender-blurry and set in a religious-looking environment. The idea came to us while working on the record when many “religious freedom” bills discriminating against LGBT community & bills curbing women’s reproductive rights were (and still are) brought up constantly. We strongly object to this and wanted to comment on the absurdity and misuse of religion as a tool of discrimination and oppression and on the lack of equality we still see in our society.

Hank & Cupcakes will be taking Cheap Thrill on the road this summer with an explosive live show accompanied by a huge stage design corresponding with the album art and will be touring all over the East Coast, Midwest and South. Do not miss the chance to see them live this summer!

Greyson Chance

Greyson Chance

bio from allmusic.com by Matt Collar

Singer/songwriter Greyson Chance is an emotive, pop-oriented artist known for his lyrical, often piano-based material. Chance first garnered attention online before breaking through with his 2011 debut, Hold on ‘Til the Night, which hit number 29 on the Billboard 200. His sound has grown ever more nuanced, incorporating textured electronic production alongside his acoustic work, as on 2019’s Portraits and 2021’s Trophies EP.

Born in Wichita Falls, Texas in 1997 and raised in Edmond, Oklahoma, Chance first began playing piano at age eight. In April 2010, a video of Chance performing Lady Gaga’s “Paparazzi” at his middle-school talent show was uploaded to YouTube and went viral. It soon caught the attention of Ellen DeGeneres, who invited the 12-year-old to perform on her show, and eventually signed him to her then newly launched eleveneleven record label. A deal with Interscope followed, and in December 2010 he delivered his debut single, “Waiting Outside the Lines.” The full-length Hold on ‘Til the Night followed in 2011 and cracked the Top 40 during its first week of release. The EP Truth Be Told, Pt. 1 arrived in 2012.

Chance continued to tour and record over the next few years. As he matured his voice deepened, and his taste shifted toward nuanced indie rock and alternative electronic pop. He showcased this sophisticated sound on his 2016 EP Somewhere Over My Head. Included on the set were the singles “Afterlife,” “Hit & Run,” and “Back on the Wall.” Also that year, he guested on tyDi and Jack Novak’s dance track “Oceans.” Chance came out as gay in July 2017, making the announcement via social media and stating that he was happy and proud of who he was. The dramatic single “Low” followed that December. A spate of singles appeared over the next year including “Lighthouse,” a collaboration with DJ/producer Fabian Mazur, “Good as Gold,” and “Twenty One.”

In 2019, Chance delivered his sophomore full-length album, Portraits, which featured production by Willy Beaman, Christian Medice, and Todd Spadafore. Included was the single “Shut Up.” The EP Trophies arrived in June 2021, as did the stand-alone track “Hellboy.”

Emily Blue

EmilyBlue

Emily Blue is a rare flavor of pop. Glitchy, sophisticated, and infectiously catchy, the Chicago vocalist and writer draws inspiration from Maggie Rogers, FKA Twigs, and Sylvan Esso. Her most recent release, nicknamed #BubbleGumAcidPop, features the dual-single “Blackberries // Rico Acid,” which gives a small but powerful preview of Blue’s (and producer Max Perenchio’s) capabilities. Her love of quirk and color expand into the new visual for “Rico Acid,” which premiered July 21 via ELEVATOR magazine. Look out for a very packed 2017 for Blue, whose musical direction may lean into even stranger territory.

“Emily Blue plays sugary-sweet pop songs that will stick with you long after her session ends.” – Daytrotter / Paste Magazine
“Our favorite new music of 2017. . . Blue’s knack for melody pairs well with her glitch pop arrangements and unique take on relationships and life.” – It’s All Dead

Elaine Dame

ElaineDame

Chicago jazz singer Elaine Dame sings – and people stop and listen. Since 1996, the woman Time Out Chicago calls “a jazz dynamo” and “a gem in the city’s vocal jazz scene” has been turning heads and capturing attention at the nation’s finest clubs and venues. From her multiple appearances at the world-famous Rainbow Room, Michael Feinstein’s 54 Below, The Triad Theater and The Metropolitan Room in New York City to her performances at the 2015 and 2017 Chicago Jazz Festivals, to headlining venerable jazz venues across the country, Elaine brings her virtuosic interpretations to vintage vocal gems and modern standards alike.

It’s the joy she exudes with every note that makes Elaine’s performances unforgettable. A graduate of The Theater Repertory Program at California State Northridge, Elaine worked for years in Chicago’s theater scene before turning her whole focus to jazz. She’s a singer who understands the importance of stage presence. It’s no wonder the Chicago Reader wrote, “Ms.Dame has a winning stage presence and chameleon-like vocal flexibility.”

Comes Love, Ms. Dame’s debut recording on the blujazz record label was released to wide critical acclaim and international radio play. “Her joy in the act of singing is obvious throughout the entirety of Comes Love. Dame combines a freshness of approach with an unaffected fondness for the music she sings. The result is a clear-eyed approach to her material that remains accessible to a broad cross-section of listeners, potentially enlarging the audience for jazz,” says Jazz Improv Magazine.

Elaine’s sophomore recording You’re My Thrill was released on December 1st, 2014 and has garnered rave reviews. Neil Tesser, Grammy award-winning writer, and author, The Playboy Guide to Jazz said this: “Elaine possesses an exacting, exhilarating command of melodic lines and emotional currents. It helps that she has pinpoint intonation: in performance, I don’t believe I’ve ever heard her miss her mark, even on difficult leaps or drops in a melody line. But she handles those intervals with a dancer’s grace and a nuanced attack, which allow the line to unfold seamlessly. She floats through a melody without any apparent effort; to appreciate her musicianship, listen to most other singers handle the same material (you can practically hear them sweat). And Dame’s phrasing manages to wed an improviser’s expressiveness with a welcome fidelity to the words and their meaning. I think if a saxophone could speak, it might sound like this.”

For the past twelve years, in addition to her consistent work as a jazz singer, Ms. Dame has been a private jazz vocal instructor and was honored to have been a 2013 teaching artist at Orbert Davis’ Chicago Jazz Philharmonic Summer Jazz Academy, where she taught scatting workshops. Ms. Dame has also presented jazz clinics at The Chicago Academy for the Arts, where she presented clinics: Jazz Singer PR Bootcamp and Stage Presence and Stylizing the Standards.

Elaine also performs for Chicago weddings, Chicago corporate events, private parties, and fundraisers. She has provided music for such corporate clients as BMO Financial Group, Meyer Corporation, and Philips Healthcare, to name a few.

While her ensembles range from a guitar and vocal duo for cocktails and dinner to a full octet for dancing, Elaine is most often found performing with her trio or quartet for Chicago corporate events and Chicago weddings. The musicians she works with rank among Chicago’s finest: a pianist who played with Dizzy Gillespie and Joni Mitchell, a guitarist who accompanied Barbra Streisand on the Oprah Winfrey Show, and a saxophonist who toured with Frank Sinatra whom the New York Times describes as in the virtuoso range.

To book Chicago jazz singer Elaine Dame for your event, call 773-296-0831 or click here. You may view samples of Elaine Dame’s club performances, read reviews from previous clients, read the press or view her extensive song list.

DJ Mary Mac

DJMaryMac

DJ Mary Mac was introduced to the art of turntables and mixing by her older brother while he practiced daily in the basement of their family’s Queens, NY home. Barely a teen, and yet highly intrigued by the techniques of the many notable DJ’s of that era, Mary Mac began working diligently to hone and perfect her skills behind the wheels. With a combination of natural talent and passion, she quickly made a name for herself as a sought-after female DJ. Needless to say, this was quite ground-breaking in the predominantly male-driven industry.

During the early 90’s her career was further ignited while attending Mitchell College. As a full-time student, she began spinning for college parties in the area. This earned her the coveted position of Music Director at Eastern Connecticut State University’s radio station where she remained for the next two years. Following her reign at the radio station, she began to earn solid credibility. By the mid 90’s, she had managed to establish a “rooted recognition” which then led her to valuable opportunities that were key in her growth as an artist of the turn-tables.

Since then, Mary has been exclusively requested to play at various national events and celebrity parties offering a seemingly endless and impressive list that includes birthday parties for Whitney Houston, Queen Latifah, MC Lyte and Queen Pen as well as promotional release parties for Cassidy, Fatty Koo, Dead Prez, Hush Magazine, Monica, and Clipse. She has played for multiple other artists and events as well. Mary most recently has been pairing up with the renowned Madonna for new mixes. DJ Jesse Mercado

DJJesseMercado

from ChicagoPride.com

Jesse Mercado grew up in Crystal Lake and Cary, in the far Northwest suburbs, but he fell in love with Chicago as a kid and knew it was where he wanted to live – and he’s been a fan of local dance music since the late-1980s, when he used to sneak into Chicago on Sunday nights to attend the B96 dance parties at the Riviera Theater.

It was Steve “Silk” Hurley who inspired Mercado to be a DJ.

In 2005, Mercado watched Hurley spin one of the “DJ’s In The Park” events hosted by the Chicago Park District, “and he moved the crowd unlike anything I have ever seen,” Mercado said.  “The crowd erupted into a frenzy every time he introduced a new track; it was magical.

“At that point, I knew I wanted to be a DJ.”

In 2007, Mercado started learning the craft, and has since worked at multiple venues in Chicago as well as clubs in Dallas, New York, Kansas City, St Louis, Toronto, and elsewhere.

Jesse Mercado is now DJ Jesse Mercado, a fixture on the gay scene, known for his tribal/vocal house style.  He has been spinning at Hydrate Nightclub in Boystown for more than three years and has been an official resident since January, 2015.  Mercado spins at Hydrate six times a year, with his next stop at Hydrate is on April 29.  Plus, he’s been a resident DJ at Steamworks for the last five years, spinning at the bath house on the fourth Saturday of each month for its Bears, Bath and Beyond event.

“As a DJ (for gay venues), it’s very rewarding,” Mercado said.  “Everyone on the dance floor faces one another and feeds off of the energy of the music as well as each other, which allows me to take the crowd on a journey over the course of several hours.  I can play very high energy music and have them working up a sweat, then take them down a darker sexier path and watch sexual tensions rise.  It’s really fun to orchestrate and something that is very unique to the gay community.

“When I DJ a daytime event, the vibe is more carefree with lots of tracks that people can sing with and throw their hands up in the air.  When it’s a club event or something like Steamworks, it’s a sexier tribal or tech house sound with less vocals and hard driving beats.”

Daya

Daya

Since making her debut with 2016’s double-platinum “Hide Away,” 19-year-old singer/songwriter Daya won her first ever Grammy Award for her smash collaboration with The Chainsmokers “Don’t Let Me Down,” released a gold-certified album, and headlined a national tour. Just months after debuting at #5 on Billboard’s 21 Under 21 list in 2016, the Pittsburgh-born artist emerged as the youngest honoree on Forbes’ 30 Under 30 music list in 2017. Newly signed to Interscope Records, Daya is set to deliver a sophomore album that finally shows the full depth of her talent and scope of her artistry.

“I’ve been writing songs since I was 12, but working on this record helped me to find my voice in a whole new way,” says Daya, who co-wrote every track on the album. “Being in the studio every day and experimenting with new sounds has opened up all these parts of me that I didn’t even know were there.”

Made with producers like Joel Little (Lorde, Tove Lo), Stargate (Sam Smith, Rihanna), and Oren Yoel (Miley Cyrus, Tori Kelly), the follow-up to 2016’s Sit Still, Look Pretty takes on a more expansive sound while further proving Daya’s gift for unforgettable melody. Along with bringing elements of urban and electronic music to her brightly arranged breed of pop, Daya embraces a soulful sensibility closely shaped by her lifelong love of R&B and her experience in studying jazz piano.

“Before this album I felt like I had to fit my songs into some kind of a mold, but now I’m less worried about keeping everything in a particular structure,” says Daya, a classically trained pianist who began playing at the age of three, and later picked up guitar, ukulele, saxophone, and flute. “The process feels much more free-flowing now, where I’m just trying out different ideas and seeing where they lead me.”

That richer sonic palette serves as the backdrop for Daya’s more emotionally complex lyrics, an element echoed by her stunning vocal range. While she notes that her songwriting has long been a conduit for self-discovery, she’s recently felt more compelled to explore emotions that tend to go ignored in pop. “Writing these new songs, I wanted to continue with the theme of empowerment from my older music, but also get even more real about things I’ve gone through and what’s in my heart,” Daya says.

On lead single “New”—a fantastically intense powerhouse offering up both intimate confession and massive beats—Daya sheds light on the struggle of owning up to your vulnerability. “I’m usually very closed off in relationships; I’ll make all these excuses about why a situation isn’t good for me or why I don’t need this person in my life,” she admits. “‘New’ is about accepting that you have real feelings for someone and learning how to let them in, which is definitely a new perspective for me.” Hailed by Billboard as a “dynamic, bass-thumping pop anthem that tugs at the heartstrings,” the track is accompanied by a gorgeously cinematic video conceptualized by Daya (who also played a key role in creating its chaotic choreography).

Throughout her second album, Daya also touches on fragile emotions like feeling unable to move on from past relationships (on catchy “Outta My Head”) and trying to explain her quick fuse (on the sharp story-telling “Temper”). On “Safe”—penned the day after the October 2017 mass shooting in Las Vegas—Daya turns in a gently devastating vocal performance perfectly suited to her thoughtful meditation on innocence and disillusionment.

“I was thinking how sad and crazy it is that these things happen so often now, they don’t even affect us the same way anymore,” Daya says of “Safe.” “I wanted look at why we’re so numb and why we haven’t done more to stop this sort of violence, but I also wanted to address that on a very personal level. It ended up becoming a song that looks back on the past, and asks why we can’t all feel as safe as when we were younger.

Born Grace Tandon, she devoted much of her childhood to honing her own musical talents.  Beginning with the piano (age 3), this Pittsburgh native picked up multiple instruments and later found her voice to accompany the songs she began writing. Her writing ability quickly garnered the attention of professionals in the music industry who invited to her to Los Angeles for her first co-writing sessions at age 16.  It was during this first trip West that “Hide Away” was born. Shortly thereafter, she became an independent artist, “Hide Away” was released and she adopted the moniker of Daya — the Hindi translation of her first name, and a nod to her Indian heritage. The track made an instant splash and transformed her into a full-time singer-songwriter who took to the road promoting her songs while remotely finishing high school.

Premiering in April 2015, “Hide Away” shot to the top 10 on Billboard’s Pop Digital Songs chart and reached #23 on the Billboard Hot 100, with Daya landing on Rolling Stone’s list of “10 New Artists You Need to Know” the following January. With Sit Still, Look Pretty arriving in October 2016, Daya soon found her full-length debut climbing to the top 40 on the US Billboard 200 and achieved colossal success with “Don’t Let Me Down” (winner of the Best Dance Recording prize at the 2017 Grammys).

Each track on Daya’s new album comes with a raw emotional charge partly inspired by her love of artists like Amy Winehouse. “I’ve always been drawn to very strong female voices—singers who have something say and keep their music honest,” she says. In the making of her new album, Daya spent much of her time reflecting on the growth she’s undergone in recent years. “When I started out, people seemed to treat me as a young female artist who didn’t really have a voice of her own,” she says. “It took me a while to speak up for myself, but now I’m at the point where I’m finally taking the creative reins.” And with empowerment more vital to her message than ever, Daya hopes that newfound confidence might help to inspire others. “Self-love, self-respect—I don’t know if you can really be taught those things, but it’s important to me to talk about my experience of being a young woman in a male-dominated world,” she says. “My hope is that people see the changes that I’ve made for myself, and maybe feel more motivated about going out and getting whatever it is that they want for their own lives.”

In late 2015, inspired by Khia’s hit “My Neck, My Back,” she decided to write sexually explicit material. The videos “Vagina” and “Deepthroat” appeared and quickly spread on the Internet like wildfire. Both songs appeared on her debut mixtape, Cum Cake, in February of 2016. S.T.D (Shelters to Deltas), named for Harris’ years spent in homeless shelters, followed in June, and the studio album Audacious arrived in October. Whether as an acoustic duo or a full band, Congress of Starlings joyfully delivers a unique, startling blend of unearthly harmonies, rich melodies, and unusual metres. Lyrically, their concerns reach from the depths of the heart, across the damaged American landscape, and through the mists of other worlds. Their voices are unmatched in their ability to move and enrapture audiences. Their songs are raw and powerful.

The current line up for full band shows features Janet Cramer on drums, (Grupo Paz, www.cramerdrums.com); Greg Nergaard on bass, (The Right Now, www.therightnow.com, Soulio Jazz, https://souliojazz.com/) and Lindsay Weinberg on vocals (Lindsay and the Lights Go Out, Come Sunday, Conspiracy Theories, lindsayweinbergmusic.com).

Aerin and Andrea have collaborated on 3 albums; Albedo, Faun Songs, and Numinous, which was named best album of 2004 by Indie Music Review. Together, they’ve earned the prestigious Three Arts Excellence grant to attend the Ragdale Artist’s retreat, were named best new artist of 2011 by Bump N Grind indie music publication and runners up for best new queer artist by OutMusic.

The Starlings have also created stellar tributes to Heart, as Little Queens, and to the Indigo Girls with Great Moments in Vinyl.

Chicago Gay Men’s Chorus

ChicagoGayMensChorus

Chicago Gay Men’s Chorus is an inclusive, community-based performing arts organization that creates musical experiences to entertain and enlighten, inspire change, and build community. Through colorful performances that blend traditional choral music with musical theater, jazz and pop, and a gay aesthetic, they seek to delight their audiences, enrich their members and explore issues relevant to LGBT people and their allies—enlivening Chicago’s cultural landscape and creating a better community for all.

The Chicago Gay Men’s Chorus (CGMC) has been an integral part of Chicago’s cultural and gay communities since 1983. For the last three decades, they have entertained audiences across the continent with innovative musical programming, exploring everything from love to politics to the sometimes fabulous, sometimes challenging world of being gay-often all at the same time. Their always-memorable performances have included original musical revues; five popular productions celebrating the Sidetrack show tune experience; full-length book musicals including The Wizard of Oz, The Mikado, H.M.S. Pinafore and our original work – Ten Commandments – The Musical; traditional choral concerts and intimate cabaret presentations-all punctuated with their signature joyous irreverence.

CGMC has traveled extensively across North America, representing Chicago in cities including Montreal, New York, Denver, Miami, Los Angeles, and New Orleans. They have also brought entertainment back home, hosting choruses from across the United States and Europe to sing with the chorus here in Chicago.

Most recently, CGMC proudly sang “America the Beautiful” for the Illinois Marriage Equality Act bill-signing ceremony and was the featured guest choral performer for the star-studded concert, Broadway Rocks, with the Grant Park Music Festival in 2011. Chicago Gay Men’s Chorus was inducted into the Chicago Gay and Lesbian Hall of Fame in 2001 and currently has four cd-recordings available: Cool Yule, featuring jazzy holiday selections; I Will Be Loved Tonight, a collection of their favorite love (and not-so-in-love) songs; Favorite Things, their second celebration of holiday music; and So Happy Together: Festival Gems, featuring all live performances from their appearances at the last three quadrennial GALA Festivals. CGMC has performed the National Anthem multiple times at world-famous Wrigley Field and for the WNBA Chicago Sky.

We Entertain.

CGMC delivers a unique entertainment experience found nowhere else in the city. We produce professional-quality shows that combine the best elements of musical theater, cabaret and traditional choral performance. But only CGMC can add that special “twist of gaiety” that can make each show fun, moving and memorable.

We Inspire.

Whether we’re representing the community while singing the national anthem at Wrigley Field or we’re providing rarely-seen GLBT-friendly entertainment in smaller cities downstate, CGMC serves as ambassadors and provides a positive image to countless thousands every year.

We Motivate.

Sometimes the message to take action can be delivered more effectively through song than through speech. That’s why CGMC has been heard regularly in the dome of the state Capitol (supporting GLBT rights and domestic partner benefits) and at major fundraising events throughout the city (often supporting AIDS-related organizations).

We Comfort.

CGMC is not only an integral part of the community, but we are a family. When asked to help, CGMC heeds the call. We’ve sung at at the Auditorium Theater honoring the victims of Sept. 11. We sing at smaller memorial services honoring local community leaders… and sometime our own members. We’re humbled to realize that CGMC’s presence can bring comfort and healing to those around us.

CeCe Peniston

CeCePeniston

CeCe Peniston was born Cecilia Veronica Peniston in Dayton, Ohio. CeCe Peniston spent most of her formative years in Phoenix, Arizona, and got her start in singing at church. She performed in plays and musicals and participated in talent shows while learning to play the piano. Cece studied Liberal Arts at the University of Phoenix, which allowed her to develop her skills in writing lyrics. In 1989, CeCe was crowned Miss Black Arizona and reigned as Miss Galaxy in 1990.

In 1991, CeCe elevated as a true artist when a friend and Phoenix-based record producer, Felipe “DJ Wax Dawg” Delgado, asked her to record back- up vocals for a female rapper slated to release an album on A&M Records. Soon after, Peniston showed her willingness to make her own individual mark in the business, and land her solo project commissioned by then A&M Records music executive, Manny Lehman. Peniston’s hit single known today as “Finally” was born and CeCe accomplished what all talented artists only dream of, inking a deal for her own debut album.

The 1990s proved to be substantial for the Dayton, Ohio native. She became an international sensation and was considered to be one of the most successful dance club artists in the history of the US Billboard Hot Dance Music/Club Play Charts. Peniston was successful at scoring five major number one hits within three years. Her signature Dance hit “Finally” was #5 on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart and #2 on the UK Top 75. It became one of the biggest dance records in history to sell over 3 million copies worldwide.

Peniston set in motion a series of singles and videos, all of which had varying success. Many of her songs triggered a series of Billboard Awards nominations in several categories and gained acceptability and appeal from fans across many genres of music. She is incredibly successful! However, the years leading up to 2014 have been filled with ups and downs for the now 45-year-old Singer, Writer, and Performer. Still an artist at heart, CeCe is reinventing herself and taking on a whole new image through television, fitness, and social media.

Her charitable organizations, LOTS (Lifting Voices To Succeed), and being an Ambassador to the National PT A, are also of great importance to her. Both have kept her dedicated to establishing the significance of placing the right values on youth in the early stages of their lives so that in their formative years, their milestones will be great and their struggles will be few. This love of bringing care and goodness to others is a way of inspiring her to write lyrics to songs that really matter.
